  • Geopolitical thriller
  • Conflict
  • Africa

Northern Mozambique is burning.

Al Shabaab insurgents sweep through Cabo Delgado, while Pemba becomes a final refuge for civilians, contractors, and foreign operatives desperate to escape.

The story involves hidden networks, blood diamonds, political interests, natural gas wealth, corporate ambition, diplomatic maneuvering, survival, loyalty and truth.

As insurgents advance and foreign interests maneuver behind diplomatic language, those aboard the last flight from Pemba must decide what they are willing to leave behind and what they are prepared to expose.

Themes & reading experience

What the book is about, beneath the plot.

Drawn from the book itself, not from marketing copy.

01

Conflict in Cabo Delgado

An insurgency advancing while a port city becomes a final refuge.

02

Resource politics

Blood diamonds, natural gas wealth and corporate ambition in the same frame.

03

Diplomatic maneuvering

Foreign interests working behind careful official language.

04

Loyalty and survival

Civilians, contractors and operatives with very different reasons to get out.

05

Truth and exposure

The decision about what to reveal, and what it will cost.

The reading experience

The thriller is built on a contemporary conflict setting rather than an invented country.

It follows several kinds of outsider at once: civilians, contractors and foreign operatives.

The pressure comes as much from resource and diplomatic interests as from the advancing front line.
